Everything was a blur and then..
After reminiscing about epic battles after playing DotA for the nth time, my weary(drunk)comrades and I have heated debates about who is the best hero out there in the entire game. Personal favorites arose. Many took sides. Noobs and leavers go for the magi's circle because of spamming prowess, early game potentials and pesky nukes. Some advanced players opt for heavy support units and AoE damage heroes for the necessary tower seige and laning. But the semi-pros (ahem) opt for the killers who hunt you down and slay you were you stand.
And when talking about heroes with the devastating ability to come and go, gliding through battles and wrecking havoc inside enemy lines, Mortred the Phantom Assassin is one of the meanest slayers in town. With Coup de Grace, he is unparalled in the natural ability for critical strikes. And his evasion is wicked sick as well, good for lane farming and sweeping up forests. Blink strike with attack speed increase and Shadow Strike with movespeed reduction sweetens the deal and makes him the most adept killer in team battles and especially on one-on-one duels.

Dressed for Success
Grooming the Phantom Assassin to be an,well, an assassin, is a perilous task frought with danger. Nukers will spam you like you never had it before and melee peers will scoff at your weak attempts at harassment. That's why you have to earn your respect with damage items that will shatter their bones as well as their towers. A Monkey King Bar as well as a Black King Bar will do and add some lifesteal with a Satanic and attack speed with an Assault Cuirass and it's GG like one-two-three. End of story.
But wait, to get to those luxury items bestowed by the gods for the godlikes (ahem), one must first EARN some dough using the humblest of items. Start of with a Ring of Health and "last hit-deny" like there's a storm brewing. Blur will help you with this. Turn that Ring into a Perseverance and push through for a Battle Fury. Do this before level 10, in time for the level two Coup de Grace. With the cleave abilty, you can farm like a farmer possessed and poach the forest free. If your having trouble with the bigger ones, wear a cheap Helm of Dominator but don't turn it to a Satanic yet. Black King Bar first because it is essential to avoid spells in clashes while Blur takes care of physical evasion. You have decent damage by then and you can mess with them in clashes. Battlefury pretty much pays for itself and so an MKB in the works should be in progress followed by the Satanic and Butterfly/Assault Cuirass. Oh, drop by and kill Roshan from time to time and sport that Aegis.
Game set, and.. uh.. settled
And so to settle things one and for all, we took bets and played a 2 of 3 decisive series. AP, choose your best heroes and be damned. I was Godlike in 30 mins and it was GG, come again in 45. Demanding an immediate rematch, same heroes, they all seethed to dethrone me from my 17-0 comfort zone on previous game's scoreboard. In an hour of crucial battles, decisive maneuvers and a twist of luck it was 2-0 with 15-3 for my PA. Pay the man, suckers, I'm going to sleep.
